Tuesday, October 28th is Santiago Strong Day!
Every year at VWES, we celebrate Santiago on his birthday by wearing red in his honor.

Santiago Buther was born on October 28, 2010, and lived life with a passionate spirit and impacted those around him with his contagious smile and laugh. He attended Van Wyck Elementary for Second and Third grade. Santiago loved all sports and could be found at recess on the basketball court, organizing foot races and playing on the monkey bars.

Outside of school, soccer was his passion and he often scored multiple goals per game. Santiago passed away on January 17, 2020, after fighting bravely against brain cancer. On our playground here at VWES, you will find Santiago’s Buddy Bench, which encourages friends to find each other at recess and enjoy time together. Santiago's sister, Arianna, a former VWES Eagle and current Indian Land Middle School student, still remains a beloved member of our Eagle family.

The Santiago Strong Foundation was created by Santiago's parents, Cynthia and Eric, and is a non-profit organization dedicated to support families and their children in the fight against Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG). Their goal is to spread awareness and raise funds to provide assistance to those currently battling DIPG. To find out more information about their foundation, please visit https://www.santiagostrong.org/.

Our Making-A-Change contest is back!! This is our 11th year doing this, and we’re so excited. At Murdock Orthodontics, we’re passionate about and committed to supporting our local schools and communities. We have three offices that are located in Lancaster County (SC) and Union County (NC), so we treat many of the students in the area. With school starting back, we know that parents, teachers, and school administrators are very busy making sure that this is going to be the best school year possible! To make that happen, it takes dedication from parents and faculty, great leadership from the administration and adequate funding. Because of our dedication to local schools, we would like to take the lead in the community by making a donation to 3 lucky schools. This will be done through our fun and easy “Making-A-Change” contest. This contest will run through the end of September and is quite simple. All you have to do is click on our link below and vote for your favorite school. It’s that easy!

Click HERE to vote for VWES!
https://www.murdockortho.com/making-a-change/

When the contest ends, the 3 local schools with the most votes will then be entered into a random drawing to win donations amounts of $1500, $1000, and $500! We’re so blessed to be able to make this a permanent feature of our practice’s commitment to local schools and our community. Please help us help our local schools by clicking on the link below to vote!
